SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the commissioning of Company’s wind turbine generators. Trouble shoots mechanical and electrical problems on variable pitch, variable speed turbines.
Assists in all areas of site construction and commissioning as directed by designated site supervision.
Performs all mechanical and electrical component testing and ultimately repairs as needed
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Other duties may be assigned.
- Travels to various projects as needed to perform commissioning activities.
- Trouble shoots complicated anomalies within wind turbine generator systems.
- Conducts training lessons as needed to enhance other employees technical knowledge
- Acts as a role model within a field environment to ensure all procedures are followed as required.
- Able to work up to 70 hours per week if needed to meet project schedules.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform the job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Direct Current Electricity, Alternating Current Electricity Working, Electronics and Around 1500 volts or less.
- Ability to consistently climb wind turbine towers up to 300’ in height.
- Able to consistently travel for up to six weeks at a time between short trips home equaling two days.
- Able to work out doors under extreme weather conditions.
- Familiarity with Voltage Testers, Multimeters, Amp Clamps, Oscilloscopes, Meghommeters, Infrared Testers, Voltage Test Procedures, Lock Out Tag Out, Electric Static Discharge (ESD), Hydraulics, Accumulator Charging, Crane Hand Signals, Soldering, Fasteners, Torquing, Hytorques, Fiber Optics, First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Tower Rescue.
- Overtime is involved to meet project deadlines as needed.
- Must have clean DMV record and ability to operate service trucks as required for site.
- Ability to train other employees in commissioning procedures.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
EDUCATION
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Working in and around wind turbine projects can be a very demanding occupation. Employees must be able to perform the following.
- Climb tower ladders up to 300’ in height.
- Lift up to 75lbs
- Shovel dirt and snow as required.
- Rappel off of towers up to 300’ in height.
- Perform basic office and computer work.
- Ability to drive work vehicles in challenging locations i.e snow & ice.
- Must be able to hear adequately in order to work safely in a construction environment
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Working on wind turbine projects is a somewhat unique experience. The environments that most wind projects are located can be the toughest in the world. Heat, dust, cold & snow are the normal working conditions (sometimes in the same day).
