AIRSTREAMS—Where It All Began
Our history began back in the mid 1980s when the founder of Airstreams, Dave Schulgen, along with a handful of our managers and key instructors started in the wind industry as technicians. Wind energy was a new, unknown industry and yet, it transformed the sleepy community of Tehachapi, CA into one of the largest concentrations of wind energy in the US. Not since the boom of the railroad had Tehachapi seen such a transformation and no one knew at the time that many of todays Airstreams staff would have been involved in helping to develop, construct, manufacture, train, operate and service wind turbines on such a large commercial scale. After 25 years of growth, they are still producing energy here in California, in many other states and around the globe. Little did we know then that this group of individuals would all find themselves looking back in history and realize that they were part of starting and establishing an industry in the US that is positioned to flourish over the next several decades to come.
Airstreams was founded in 2003 and while the new company picked up consulting work and anything else they could do to help pay the bills, the partners had a much bigger vision of where they wanted the company to go. Airstreams began as a wind energy safety and training company and soon found out that the idea of training excellence took a back seat to growth and industry expansion. “We were convinced that the market would recognize our value, but in those early days, we were preaching training and few were buying the message.” The truth is, the Airstreams founding team and some of our instructors worked for nearly a decade fine tuning safety and technical training programs for other large companies, only to realize their passion for quality training could be developed into a new safety focused technical training company... independent of OEM type and dedicated to innovative and accelerated training methodology. Airstreams today enjoys the respect of the industry and continues to innovate in delivering pin-point focused technical training curriculum that gets our graduates jobs. For the companies who hire our graduates, we provide well trained, safety minded employees.
So, after nearly 25 years of industry development, Airstreams has brought together one of the most powerful teams of individuals to do what we do best; train! Our instructor-led training programs are designed to integrate field theory with hands-on practical training where students are measured through a set of complete training assessments to ensure the holder of an Airstreams certificate has consistently met or exceeded the necessary requirements for successful employment within the renewable energy industry.
Our long standing motto that ensures our students and our clients programs are successful is that "Safety and Training are not an event, they are a culture". Airstreams is focused on increasing the productivity of our students, whether new to the renewable energy field or continuing their education. Our programs are continuously updated and taught by highly experienced industry leaders. The Airstreams curriculum is currently offered in a number of college and technical programs, state workforce development programs and we strive to create and maintain long term relationships with both our students and business partners.
